Driving Innovation Through Baseline Studies

Uhai Lake Forum spearheads groundbreaking baseline studies to address critical environmental and energy challenges in Kisumu County. Our work focuses on three pivotal pillars: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Inventories to identify key contributors and enable strategic reduction measures, Risk Vulnerability Assessments to fortify climate resilience, and Access to Energy Evaluations to enhance equitable energy solutions. Backed by the EU through CoMSSA and Expertise France, this initiative paves the way for a Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP) that integrates emissions, energy, and climate risk studies to unlock climate finance at the local level.

Commitment in Action

Reinforcing Our Commitment

Through strategic partnerships, including support from the People of Japan and UNDP’s Amkeni Wakenya project, Uhai Lake Forum is implementing a multi-sectoral response to COVID-19. This initiative addresses the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic by strengthening Kisumu County's capacity to safeguard land, environment, and property rights for vulnerable populations. Piloted in Nyakach, Kisumu Central, and Seme sub-counties, this project exemplifies our dedication to fostering inclusive and sustainable recovery.

Who We Are

Our Roots

Uhai Lake Forum (ULF) is a community-focused Non-Governmental Organisation founded in 1996 and registered in 1999 as a Community Based Organisation. Because of its broadened focus, it was later registered as an NGO with the NGO Coordination Board in 2004. Uhai Lake Forum addresses the issues of resource and environmental conservation in the Lake Victoria region through capacity building or training and advocating for appropriate policies on natural resource governance, carrying out critical assessments and research in natural resources to determine their value and use to maintain quality for safety besides advocating for communities’ rights and access to their natural resource base and responsibility-taking to ensure sustainable utilisation for livelihood security.
