About Us
Uhai Lake Forum (ULF) is a distinguished community-focused Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was established in 1996 and officially registered as a Community-Based Organisation in 1999. Over time, ULF’s growing focus on broader issues led to its re-registration in 2004 as a full-fledged NGO with the NGO Coordination Board. This transition reflects the organization’s dedication to addressing critical environmental and socio-economic challenges in the Lake Victoria region, particularly in areas related to resource management and conservation.
ULF’s work primarily revolves around advocating for sustainable natural resource governance, capacity building, and policy development. The organization plays a pivotal role in training local communities on environmental conservation, conducting research, and providing vital assessments of natural resources to assess their sustainability. By engaging with communities, ULF promotes responsible management practices, ensuring that natural resources are utilized effectively to enhance livelihood security while preserving the environment for future generations. Through its advocacy efforts, ULF also works to secure community rights and access to natural resources, empowering individuals to contribute to their region’s development and environmental stewardship.
